Welcome. We’re so glad you’re here.

Happy 2024! It’s the start of a new year and the start of something so exciting.

Welcome to SHE-Q Audio.

I’m so thrilled to be on this journey with other women and non-binary music producers and audio engineers. I started SHE-Q Audio because it can feel like a big daunting mountain to climb when you want to be the best at your job but feel a bit unsure as to how to get there.

It’s not that support doesn’t exist - a very huge shout out to our dude allies and peers who have helped us immeasurably - they are invaluable and continue to be. But over a time period where we’ve seen so much progress and awareness on equity issues of many kinds, why does this weird little pocket of the arts remain so disproportionate with respect to gender?

I knew there were others out there who must have felt the same way I did, and I went looking for them. I’m so glad that I found them - whether as individuals or other organizations - because we’ve supported each other with advice, opportunities, resources, etc. that we would have never come into as isolated individuals.

SHE-Q Audio is the formal expansion of that community and sector building, focused first at home in Canada, in trying to bring more women/non-binary engineers and producers into the professional fold. We have a few programs in Canada - all of which are critically essential - that focus on early skills or mid-stream development for the production and engineering pipeline.

But a pipeline doesn’t flow if there is a clog at any point in it, and so my focus is on the end. And helping us get to the other side of the pipeline - the real world - by working mostly on the last rung of professional development, opportunity generation, and relationship building that creates sustainable careers. A real-world careers means more visibility and representation for women+ in the field.

And to our industry friends, I see nothing but symbiosis and mutual benefit to be had by encouraging a huge segment of the population who have maybe sat hesitating on the sidelines, to get in the game.

I hope you find this site and our community helpful, and I hope it helps you, wherever you are in the world, reach new heights in your craft.

Love,

Jinting
